Unit 1 targets:
The beginner to fitness who is looking for a fun modality to build endurance and stability. This person should ensure they get medical clearance from their doctor and undergo a FMS screening.
The individual who is regularly active but wants to learn how to properly use those strange iron weights which show up everywhere from Jillian Michaels to CrossFit WODs.
The coach or trainer who programs kettlebell swings, get-ups, or even kettlebell/barbell deadlifts and wants to ensure their clients' safety and progress.
Unit 2 targets:
Those who have attended our Unit 1 clinic. While not a "prerequisite" it's highly encouraged to have a good understanding of the hardstyle swing at the very least.
Those who have gone through the StrongFirst Kettlebell 101 course or equivalent.
Those who coach/train the American swing.
Those starting the path to SFG or RKC certification.

The American swing requires greater overhead mobility than the Russian hardstyle swing or even the kettlebell one-handed snatch. It is included by default in our Unit 2 clinic as there is a systematic progression to ensure the participants are able to safely and effectively complete the movement, or at least know if their overhead mobility should improve with a goal in mind.

Other than some water, snacks, and a lunch (for Unit 2 students), you might benefit from a notepad and something to write with. Bring a couple CDC approved masks for health in these trying times.
For clothing, wear something comfortable for moderate intensity cardio work and perhaps a sweatshirt/pants to help stay limbered up in between the practice application sessions throughout the day.
For footwear, it's preferable to train barefoot, or in cotton socks, but if that isn't happening for one reason or another, wear shoes with a low heel rise such as Chuck Taylors, Vibram Five Fingers, or other minimalist athletic shoes.

No, unless you want to. We either provide quality kettlebells for participants to use or ensure the host facility has acceptable kettlebells for the course coverings and student size. There is something to be said for learning how to use the kettlebell you have available to you, but keep in mind we might switch it out for another if it will benefit the student for the event.

Maybe. You’ll be able to learn a lot just by attending and going through the instruction, watching others, and seeing the changes they make as corrections are made. But if you want to be able to take full advantage of the clinics personally, it wouldn’t hurt to contact us to see if there are sufficient modifications or regressions available which would give the same value.

So long as you have a pulse and have medical clearance, yes! Everyone starts/restarts somewhere and it might as well be at one one of our clinics. There, you'll be able to meet new people and learn how to safely move a kettlebell. Don't wait until January 1st of the coming year...

At a minimum, we will abide by the most restrictive local, state, or federal mandates or those set for our events/host facilities. Currently, CDC-recommended masking is required during the instructional and practical application periods. Workouts will not require (but are recommended) masking. Since you might get a little sweaty, it wouldn't hurt to bring a couple extra just in case. Student course sizes will be limited based upon local, state, and federal mandates as well as the facility size/layout to ensure there is enough spacing between participants.
Leave politics at the door. Disruptive, dangerous, or otherwise inconsiderate behavior will result in ejection from the event without any refund.

Sorry, no. We want to provide the very best instruction and value without distractions for the other students. Plus, there will be times where many heavy iron objects will be moved through the air and it could create a safety concern.
Prior to either Individual or Group training, each participant will be asked to complete a readiness questionionnaire which will cover injury history, movement/weight restrictions, current medications/supplement usage, and any relevant medical issues. For those training at your location, we'll need to either do an onsite assessment of the space or it can be via Zoom. This is so we know what equipment is available and what would need to be transported by us for training. After we perform our free location assessment, receive responses regarding readiness, and perform range of motion assessments, we will provide a summary of what our training plan would be. You could then determine whether to purchase any training sessions.
The initial assessment will identify muscular imbalances and mobility restrictions, as well as a baseline of cardiovascular condition. This will let us know which foundational movements can undergo strength training, and which movements or areas will use corrective exercises to safely begin strength training after sufficient mobility is achieved.

Prior to obtaining his certification as a trainer, he facilitated and programmed circuit classes at the Red Dog Mine for the employees at the remote Mining operation. He actively participates in Olympic Weightlifting training while working towards his Barbell Logic Professional Barbell Coach and StrongFirst SFG II and SFL certifications.
There's a couple options:
1) You can either purchase Individual training session(s) and we can make it an Individual instead of a Group session for you. If your training partner has a lifestyle where this occurs for one reason or another on a frequent basis, it wouldn't hurt to hold Individual sessions in your account for these occurences.
2) We can train Individually and we can accept a check for the difference or issue an invoice for the difference.
We are not able to refund unused sessions unless there are extenuating circumstances. While training through a package, it will be important to keep us up to date on which might create a situation where you are no longer able to train so we can work together to come up with a solution.
Alternatively, you can transfer your remaining sessions to another person.
Unless otherwise indicated, indoor training with masks worn by all parties. We understand it's not common while in your own home, but the health and safety of all those involved and their close contacts is of the utmost importance. We train so we can spend more time with them in life, not less.
If outdoors, masks are not required unless requested by clients. Distancing by the trainer will be done as much as possible except when spotting or providing feedback requiring manipulation or demonstration.
Zoom is always an option if needed.
No. Each client will still receive highly valuable training and we purposefully keep our rates low since we do not have excessive overhead to support.
As of the beginning of November 2021, we are able to provide sufficient equipment portable enough to fulfill most training plans. We do encourage participants to have their own basic equipment so they can train and practice in between paid sessions. We have barbells, bumper plates, kettlebells, and resistance bands.
